Though i know this is common sense, still like to double confirm.

Anyone ever use ROV’s wire cutter to cut wirerope between DMA and pulling head under very high tension?

Yes 🙂 ………….. Used a Puma with Hydrolek Disc cutter 🙂
One second it was there ………………. The next ………… Gone 😯

That was the reason why they used the ROV instead of Divers although That has been done quite often but not considered safe.

Yep! Done that a couple of times. It’s not always the case that you can get the tension off anyway.

If you were looking for an alternative, go give ray at unique system in denmore road (Aberdeen City, Scotland, UK) a ring.

What might be of use to you is a subsea acoustic shackle. I know from my time there, they had units up to 100Te pull. I think you’ll need to specifically review which ones can just "buzz to release" and which unit will have to be de-tensioned in order to release.

Yes – on more than one occasion without a hitch.

Also used acoustic releases, however dependent on the tension levels, it maybe be safer to kit to just cut ‘n run!

    What tension are you at?

In all my years working out in MiddleEast , The companies out there ( Mainly Non Productive Constant Cock-ups ) Were not willing to put in place an Accoustic Release Shackle as too expensive or the wire was left in situ for over 6 months 😯
