Brazilian Navy expanding use of Chesapeake Technology's SonarWiz 5Chesapeake Technology, Inc. (CTI), innovation leaders in sonar data acquisition and processing software, just completed hands-on training in Rio de Janeiro for the Brazilian Navy to support their expanding use of CTI's SonarWiz5 sonar software. The Brazilian Navy Center of Hydrography (CHM) is in the process of doubling the number of SonarWiz5 licenses and hopes to standardize on it for all of their sonar work needed for geological mapping, mine detection, and updating of nautical charts.

"We're extremely satisfied with SonarWiz5 and the customer service we're getting from Chesapeake Technology," commented commander Ana Angélica Ligiéro Alberoni Tavares, from CHM. "As we expand use, the intuitive user interface makes it very easy for new users to get up to speed quickly, and Chesapeake has always been responsive to our requests."

The training included at-sea, hands-on use of SonarWiz5 plus follow-up post-processing work. Attendees included hydrographers, geologists, geophysicists, military personnel, plus visiting scientists from CPRM, Brazil's geological service, and IPT, Technological Research Institution from Sao Paulo. A customized training event was also provided to long-time CTI customer C&C Technologies do Brasil, which is providing survey services to Brazil's largest oil company, PETROBRAS. According to C&C's Geosciences Manager, Sergio Henrique Nunes de Faria, "SonarWiz5 shows the easiest interface and is extremely helpful for interpreting side scan sonar and SBP data. I really would like to assert that with this new version CTI can reach and help people worldwide."

John Gann, CTI's co-founder and chief technology officer, conducted the training. "When the Brazilian Navy calls, it's hard to say no," noted Gann. "They have one of the longest coast lines in the world, and we're thrilled that they want to standardize on SonarWiz 5 to support the extensive hydrographic activities in which they're engaged."
