iRobot introduces enhanced Seaglider unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV)

iRobot Corp., a leader in delivering robotic technology-based solutions, is introducing a newly configured Seaglider UUV. Seaglider can now be outfitted with a larger set of fairings that significantly increases the UUV's volume and mass payload capabilities. Payload mass is doubled over Seaglider's original design to four kilograms and payload volume has expanded 650 percent to more than 21,000 cubic centimeters, resulting in the ability to integrate both larger sensors and a greater number of sensors with Seaglider.

OceanServer awarded 2 new AUV contracts

OceanServer Technology, Inc. has recently received AUV orders from NOAA and the University of Wisconsin for use in scientific research and mapping applications. The new order from NOAA represents the federal agency's second Iver2 vehicle purchase.


Teams from Cal Poly, CSU Long Beach track sharks using underwater robotics

Tracking the movements of sharks may become a bit easier soon thanks to a project involving students and faculty from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and CSU Long Beach. Cal Poly Computer Science Professor Chris Clark and Marine Biology Professor Mark Moline are collaborating with CSU Long Beach Marine Biology Professor Christopher Lowe on the shark tracking project, which involves using Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) from Cal Poly. The AUVs, which resemble torpedoes, gather and send data to scientists.


Hydroid awarded AUV contract from Ocean Observatories Initiative

Hydroid, Inc., a subsidiary of Kongsberg Maritime, the leading manufacturer of Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) systems, announces that it has been awarded a major contract to provide AUVs and seafloor docking stations for the Coastal and Global Scale Nodes (CGSN) component of the Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI).
