Damen Dredging Equipment delivers 6 DOP dredge pumps to SMD for RT-1 Rock TrencherDamen Dredging Equipment has recently delivered 6 DOP submersible dredge pumps, type DOP3530LD to Soil Machine Dynamics. The DOP submersible dredge pumps will be integrated in a remotely operated "RT-1" Rock Trencher. The "RT-1" will cut trenches for sub sea pipelines at working depths up to 500 m. The "RT-1" is built by Soil Machine Dynamics for CTC Marine Projects, who will use it to bury for instance gas pipelines.

Four DOP submersible dredge pump type DOP3530LD will be integrated in the "RT-1". Each hydraulically driven DOP3530LD will do 2.000 m3/h at 3 bar, using 75 kW. The wear resistant dredge pump is provided with a mechanical shaft seal, not requiring grease nor gland water. The bearing housing has been provided with pressure compensation for the impressive working depth. Soil Machine Dynamics has chosen the DOP submersible dredge pump, because of its proven technology over the past decades.

Remotely operated DOP dredging deeperThe "RT-1", which has been developed by Soil Machine Dynamics in conjunction with CTC Marine Projects, is designed specifically for trenching pipe lines in hard ground regions. Trenching is done by 3 chain cutters, excavating a depth of 2.5 m. The debris from the bottom of the trench as well as from its side is removed by the DOP pumps, depositing the material at the side of the trench. The remotely operated "RT-1" first lifts the steel pipe, cuts the trench and lowers the pipe again, continuing its job along the pipe on its tracks.

Damen Dredging Equipment delivered the 6 DOP pumps (2 spare) in only 2 months time. Currently, Soil Machine Dynamics is integrating the dredge pumps in the "RT-1". The "RT-1" is due to be delivered at the end of this year; CTC Marine Projects will start its tough jobs at the beginning of next year.
