Hess discovers oil offshore DenmarkOil has been discovered in the South Tor Pod exploration well off Denmark. The discovery is five kilometres (3.2 miles) southeast of the producing South Arne field in license 7/89, which was awarded in 1989.

The licensees will now evaluate the size and productivity of the discovery. Estimated size of the prospect before drilling was 32 million barrels of oil equivalents gross.

Hess Denmark APS is operator of license 7/89. The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 2,968 metres (9,737 ft) below the sea level and was concluded in the Cretaceous Hod formation. Water depth at the site is 55 metres (180 ft) and the well was drilled by jackup Ensco 70.

Development of the South Tor Pod area will constitute an integrated part of the ongoing continued development planning of the South Arne main field as well as the Northern Extension (SANE) of the field which was appraised in 2006.
