Offshore News: Chinese dredger ship impounded offshore, crew investigated

MANILA, Philippines – Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Undersecretary Arturo Valdez said a dredger vessel docked near the Aklan River has been barred by the government from leaving Philippine waters until an ongoing investigation is completed.

Offshore News: Statoil Completes Efficient Exploration Drilling Campaign Offshore Newfoundland

Statoil, along with its partners, has finalized a 19-month exploration drilling program offshore Newfoundland. The purpose of the drilling program was to increase the robustness of the Bay du Nord project and to test new areas of the Flemish Pass Basin.

Nine wells were drilled safely and efficiently by the Seadrill West Hercules in the Flemish Pass Basin, located approximately 500 kilometers east of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. The results have improved Statoil’s understanding of the frontier Flemish Pass Basin.

Offshore News: Bibby Offshore moves into offshore wind cable installation

Bibby Offshore, a well known owner and operator of vessels in the offshore oil and gas sector has announced a move into the offshore wind array cable installation market. The company has acquired a power cable lay carousel from Ecosse Subsea Systems (ESS), which will enable it to lay power cables for offshore wind projects from its vessels.

Offshore News: Shell Targets Doubled Deepwater Production

THE HAGUE, the Netherlands – Shell plans to apply the brakes to capital spending between now and 2020. CEO Ben van Beurden said the aim was to “re-shape Shell into a more focused and more resilient company…”

Integrated gas, previously a growth priority for the company, has reached critical mass following its recent acquisition of BG, he added. “The pace of new investment will slow here, and integrated gas will now prioritize the generation of free cash flow and returns.”

Instead, Shell plans to prioritize deepwater production, in particular offshore Brazil and in the Gulf of Mexico.

Offshore News: Fair Head Tidal Project Works to Begin in 2018

Fair Head Tidal is planning to submit a marine licence application this summer for the proposed 100MW tidal energy scheme located off the north Antrim coast of Northern Ireland, near Ballycastle. The team behind the Fair Head Tidal Energy Park, a joint venture between Cork-based DP Energy and Bluepower NV, a Belgium company whose shareholders include the offshore contractor, DEME, and utility, Nuhma, has concluded a series of extensive surveys offshore and onshore.

Offshore News: First ├ůsgard subsea compression kit heads to seafloor

STAVANGER, Norway – The North Sea Giant vessel has begun offshore installation of the modules for the Åsgard subsea gas compression project in the Norwegian Sea.

This is designed to extract a further 282 MMbbl from the Åsgard field.

Offshore News: Chevron makes gas discovery in Carnarvon basin, Western Australia

Chevron has made a gas discovery in the Carnarvon hydrocarbon basin, off Western Australia's north-west coast.

Located in the WA-392-P permit area, 95km northwest of Barrow Island, the Isosceles-1 exploration well encountered 134m of net gas pay in the Triassic Mungaroo Sands, in 968m of water.
