I’m looking for info about Pressure Tolerant Electronic components. 😯

Can’t find anything on the web !!!! 🙄

What kind of capacitors are pressure tolerant ❓

    Thanks for any answer !!!!

save yourself some time and buy a titanium bubble like we all do 😆 – how deep do you want to go as this will really influence your choice?

Solid ones! e.g. not electrolytic 🙂

We have used RS232-422 convertors down to several hundred metres depth by encapsulating the whole board in potting if you are desperate.

paper caps fall to bits generally and generally just crush- I’ve had to de-solder a couple and replace them with solid state caps instead. 😥

Wire wound resistors seem to be quite resilient under diala (NASTY!).

Potting in scotchcast works quite well (wear gloves and goggles-equally friggin nasty); I used to bury camera boards in the stuff and I’ve not had any real problems, although I think as the stuff cures, you get a bit of heat generation and this is sometimes a negative effect on circuits performance – I don’t know why – maybe it shifts and strains components or maybe it heats locally beyond the temp limits of the chips (normally around 85 deg for non mil stuff I think) – (I think it’s supposed to have a low co-eff of thermal expansion though so not sure if it possibly moves components).

How big are your electronics – I got a couple of housings lying around on the shelf that I might be able to chuck your way. I’m in denmark till the 28th so you’d have to wait…..

You can also use surface mount components. We have a Zetechtics TMS control unit that is in an oil filled box. We have capacitor modules made up which are basically a whole load of surface mount capacitors parallelled up to bring the board up to an appropriate capacitance for psu smoothing. as they are surface mount they are solid and will take the pressure.
