    Are these pilots getting paid the going rate? I have heard in Norway that Polish shipyard welders have two contracts, one to show the uni0ns they are receiving the going rate of pay and conditions and another which actually states they receive a lot less. ‘Tell anyone and you’re out of a job’ etc!

    £5 per hour seems to be the going rate for Polish migrants doing land based jobs in the UK.

    Better brace ourselves for a pay cut! I’m sure we will all happily train them up to eventually take over the work we are doing. I’ve no real problem with that, but maybe if our wage structure was protected it wouldn’t be such a scary thought!

    fine by me, I’m going to work my ass off for the next 15 months and make as much hay as possible until the sun sets on another fine industry….

    it’s ok on the retraining front too- just remember

    "negative= red",

    "positive= black",

    "all stop" = joystick full forward…with a twist

    heh heh heh

    I heard a rumour that SS7 were going to take on a group of our eastern European friends. You think the big operators are going down this road because of lack of personnel? If its true, its obviously a means to lower the wage bill. Be prepared for lower wage increases as Woclowski does it for peanuts!! Can’t be because of lack of personnel as you just have to look at the post on here from people lookiing for trainee positions. loads!
    A minimum set rate like the divers have would be a good thing!!!

    I was on a fugro vessel in December with a Polish survey trainee and to be honest he was as good if not better than trainee surveyors I had seen in the past from the UK and Canada.

    Best of luck to these guys might make a few British Pilots improve if there is real competition for jobs as long as the companys employ the right people who can do the job rather than the cheap guy who fills a seat then there should be no problem especially now the EU has expanded. A cheap employee this week will be on the standard rate pretty soon anyway.

    Best of luck to these guys there is to much work around for the amount of Techs anyway.

    Fugro have taken on a dozen or so Polish surveyors/survey trainees over the last while. I believe they are employed via another Fugro company, usual dodge whether its for tax or pay I dont know.

    My experience of Polish people in general is all very hard, consientious, clever workers.

    We have one Polish trainee ROV pilot, but he has been over here for some time and was a machine operator, employed same deal as all other trainees.

    The busses wouldnt run in Aberdeen if we didnt have Polish people to drive them! They are mainly taking up jobs that no-one else would do anyway, so I certainly do not see them as "stealing" jobs.
