James,
Maybe this has to be approached the other way. Over the past few months you, amongst others, have highlighted the benefits and given examples of why people should join a union.
The Ozzy example is perfect. I’ve been on Australian jobs, 90% of which were ROV operations and the back deck crew received considerable ‘construction’ bonuses, as agreed by their unions. The ROV guys got nothing and this caused a lot of bad feeling.
Now we’re all on a pretty even par and everybody is happy with their ‘package’.
Should we be asking ‘why not join a union?’ Why would you not join together and get what the rest of the industry is getting.
Is it the cost of joining?
Is it a stigma, fear of being victimised for joining a union?
Can anyone give a good reason why the UK and European ROV personnel should not join the union, RMT or whatever?
The silence is deafening!

cheers.
