1835 Local government in Britain was constituted under the British Municipal Corporations Act. 1985 Massive earthquakes in Mexico left more than 4,700 dead and 30,000 injured. 1994 USA agreed to accept 20,000 Cuban refugees a year. 1996 The European Court of Human Rights agreed to hear a case in which a 12-year-old boy was challenging British laws allowing parents to practise corporal punishment on their children. 1998 Flooding continued to threaten Dhaka, Bangladesh's capital, as thousands of troops and civilians attempted to fortify an embankment protecting the city. The rains were the worst in Bangladesh's history, causing more than 850 deaths and making a quarter of the 124 million population homeless.
"The World ROV Market Report 2010-2014 identifies 2009 expenditure on ROV services in the global work-class market at $1.7 billion. The report forecasts rapid recovery and expenditure from a 2009 low, growing to $3.2 billion by 2014. Increase in ROV demand and the attrition of the existing fleet will require over 550 new work-class units over the next five years – driven by the industry’s push into deepwater and the increased necessity of work-class ROVs in today’s industry".
"Worldwide expenditure within the deepwater sector will total $167 billion between 2010 and 2014 – equating to a
37% increase on the five preceding years. These and other key industry-defining insights are unveiled today in new
research by energy business analysts, Douglas-Westwood.
The World Deepwater Market Report 2010-2014 reveals that sector activity will largely remain within the, ‘golden
triangle’ of Africa, the Gulf of Mexico and Brazil – with regional investment representing over three-quarters of the
predicted global Capex expenditure. The majority of ‘golden triangle’ investment, however, will take place in Latin
America – driven largely by Capex-intensive development plans laid out by Petrobras over the next decade. The
report also highlights that Asian deepwater markets will continue to grow during the forecast period – receiving
around 10% of the total predicted global Capex investment."
