What is Starfish?

Based on the popular 450F design, the StarFish 452F brings even higher definition imagery to your PC. With half the horizontal beam angle (for twice the resolution) and our advanced digital CHIRP acoustic technology developed from the professional underwater survey industry, StarFish 452F produces crisper and cleaner imagery at ranges of up to 100 metres on each channel (200m total swathe coverage). It competes with many larger commercial systems produces spectacular images of the seabed, and includes intuitive software with a variety of data export options.

Measuring less than 15 inches long the StarFish 452F sonar is small enough to be transported in your rucksack. Lightweight and quick to deploy by hand, the 452F towed system is independent of the boat requiring no fixed installation which makes it easy to transport and operate from any vessel. The StarFish Peli Case provides a rugged and watertight method for transporting and storing your StarFish system.

The compact hydrodynamic full body three-fin design improves stability of the sonar while it’s being towed which in-turn helps improve the quality of images it produces. The sonar also incorporates and inline connector to allow the cable to be swapped or replaced on site. Additional cable lengths are also available to help you choose the best towing solution for your needs. Designed to be 'Plug and Play', connecting to your Windows PC or laptop via a USB connection, the StarFish 452F comes with software to allow the capture and recording real-time images from the seafloor below, making seabed imaging easy for everyone.

Applications:

The StarFish Seabed Imaging System can be used for literally hundreds of underwater applications. Any time you require near photographic quality images of the seafloor, for work or play, in clear or low visibility waters, StarFish can deliver. Listed below are just some of the more common applications for the StarFish Seabed Imaging System.
Engineering - Salvage operations, inspection of coastal structures, planning of seafloor installations, dredging operations, pipeline / cable location and inspection, dam inspection, location of sunken logs from lumber operations.
Law Enforcement / Homeland Security - Search and recovery operations, retrieval of submerged evidence from a crime scene, guide diver search operations, survey crash sites or accident scenes, recovery of sunken vehicles, search for mines and other explosives, harbour patrol, mapping of territorial waterways.
Wreck Location / Archaeological Survey - Wreck and cargo discovery, dive site navigation, identify wreck orientation, wreck debris discovery, identify possible man-made structures for investigation, marine archaeology, identify potential hazards before divers enter the water.
Academic and Research - Geological surveys, environmental studies of the seafloor, marine biology, reef monitoring, hazardous waste site assessment, hydrographic surveys, monitor changes to seafloor and habitat over time, identify the structure and composition of the seafloor.
Dive Clubs - Discover new and exciting dive sites, locate the best approach to a dive site, identify potential hazards before divers enter the water, identify interesting artifacts (like shipwrecks) in local waters, obtain digital images of known dive sites for reference and mapping.

Side scan sonars transmit a narrow fan-shaped acoustic pulse (ping) perpendicular to its direction of travel. As the acoustic pulse travels outward from the side scan sonar, the seabed and other objects reflect some of the sound energy back in the direction of the sonar (known as backscatter). The travel time of the returned pulse is recorded together with its amplitude as a time series and sent to a topside console for interpretation and display. The topside console stitches together data from successive pulses, creating a long continuous image of the seafloor as the side scan sonar is towed from a survey vessel.

Side scan sonars transmit sound waves from one or both sides of the sonar. These sound waves (pings) reflect back from the seabed and are sent from the side scan sonar to a topside console for interpretation and display

What's supplied with the system?

Hi Buzz

We are located in Portugal, EU.

If the '(NH)' after your name stands for New Hampshire, USA (not that anyone anywhere in the world should be expected to know that) then you'd probably be better looking for a distributor in North Amercia (USA or Canada).

regards
James
