Hi guy!
I plan to fix a electric rotor with differencial to the Falcon winch. Do you think 1 hp with 30 rpm is powerfull enough to lift the vehicle up from surface to deck with a 50 kg weight on the umbilical?
30 rpm it is the good speed to slack and recover the umblical???
Cheers

Hi wawaron,

1 hp is approximately 736 W, and assuming an umbilical recovery speed of 1 m/s, the maximum weight you can lift is roughly 736/10 = 73.6 kg.

If you decrease the maximum allowed recovery speed (by means of a gearbox) you will increase the weight you can lift.

The formula is:

weight = W/(10 * speed)

rpm is related to your electric motor, and by means of a gearbox you transform it into rpm of your winch drum and thus into umbilical recovery speed.

30rpm is a low and quite unusual (to me) value...is it an AC 3 phases asynchronous motor?

I doubt with such a motor you will manage to lift your falcon at a reasonable speed.

(better late than never)

Thank for your answer
I'm gonna try a 1.5 hp motor with a 30/1 gear box
