Hi All
The numbers look a bit daunting but I may as well get started somewhere.
Just finished a ROV Pilot/Tech course ( Subnet services - recieved good final assessment on completion) and I am now seeking employment within the industry.Any position considered to gain some good experience.

Kiwiphil

NB I am based in Pattaya ,Thailand so anyone in the area wanting to meet for a beer and swap stories etc drop me a line.

Pilot/Captains, is this the new titles being put out by schools? Oh dear!

"Hello, this is the Captain of your ROV..."

Besides this Subnet piece of paper (which won't really count for much) do you have a strong technical background (Electrical, electronic, hydraulic) which counts for more. However that is you and several other thousand all looking for a start, so good luck.

I think Phil is a Captain by trade that has recently completed an ROV course. I suspect I was on a job with him in the Gulf of Thailand many years back when I was working with Global Industries out of Singapore and he was skipper, but can't be dead sure... foggy memories of that era Wink

Hi Phil sorry to say this but you are wasting your time at this moment in time as there are hundreds if not thousands of experienced guys available but very little work on offer at the moment .
If I was you I would find your self some little job until the work picks up but it could be a few years time I know thats not what you wanted to hear but this is a bad time to start in the Rov game as there is nothing .

But just read the items regarding work on this forum and your see what I mean .
Good Luck

Hi again
Thanks for all the replies!
I will try to reply to everyone in one messsage if thats ok.
Yes ,I kind of got the impression that things were fairly quiet at the moment.
I have a 500 ton Captains ticket and there isn't much work for us either .just recently did my course while I had some free time ,in the hope that it might combine well with my other qualifications(+ 20 years maritime experience).
I am hoping that there will be some work coming up in australia around may-june with the new gorgon gas project starting up.
In the meantime I am trying to make the most of things here in Jomtien beach ,Pattaya.I know, I know... it's a tough job but someones got to do it!
catch you for a beeer sometime !
NB .After reading the forums I have noticed a little bit of hostility towards newbies coming into the industry. I understand how fustrating it must be for veterans but please remember that there was a time when EVERYONE was starting from zero and just because someone is just beguinning dosn't mean they don't have the capacity to develop into an accomplished and valued member of the industry.

can't tell the difference between the a Kiwi and an Aussie ? Kiwis are the smart good looking ones!

Ya' gotta remember Phil, there was a time where there were only a handful of ROVers about and we were screaming for time off... Now??? It's the opposite.
