For many years in the UK I had insurance that covered me for worldwide travel and work. Can't remember who with, but many companies will cover for this. I'm now covered by our own company insurance.

For any new policy just make sure that you tell them you work with ROV's and give them an overview of your job. Ensure they fully understand that you do not actually go underwater in a submarine and that for the most part (but not limited to) you work on a ships deck.

For occupation (should an entry be required) you should enter Remote Operated Vehicle Technician in full (Not just... ROV) so that there is no misunderstanding on perceived risk/payout should the need arise.

best regards
James Mc

I have been looking in to this for the last couple of days! Did you ever have any success in getting the cover you were looking for?

Why do you need medical insurance? Your company/ client/ agency provide this. If I were you I'd look at income protection insurance as if you have an accident, the company/ agency pay the medical bill but when you are recouperating no-one pays you a salary if you are agency. Staff guys should be fine.

I have personal medical insurance. The reason is simple, get injured when working fair enough, company pays the bills.

However, as a day-rate employee get injured on your own time, no pay and having to wait for NHS, medical insurance was the way forward for me. Razz

I have Business Travel Insurance arranged through Houlders.

The policy includes £10 Million Medical and Additional Expenses.

I am covered for manual work on ROVs offshore

It cost me £325 plus 6% IPT this year.
