I was wondering if I might pick your minds about some general information on the ROV world.
What are the main (e.g. top 5) manufacturer's in the oil and gas industry? Is this the same for subsea commercial (e.g. renewables, subsea construction)?
How many units do you think are at work in oil and gas, and renewables?
Have you worked with a lot of observation ROVs? Or do companies primarily just use the cameras on work class ROVs?
I'm just trying to get a general idea of who makes and operates ROVs in the cash-rich oil and gas industry. Any advice/knowledge would be greatly appreciated!
Great site btw!
Cheers

ChrisBbacon,
There are many factors that we must consider before we can answer that question.
Are you talking about fleet size or a particular operation which an ROV can do within those industries.
I know that Subsea 7 (I-Tech) have a large fleet of ROVs. They have had a lot of ROV contracts within the offshore oil and gas industry. Also SMD have a large fleet of ROVs. They also have trenchers which help install subsea cables to wind turbines that are at sea.
These are the only two that i know of that have lots of contracts for the oil and gas industry.
Kind Regards

Dear ChrisBbacon,
This is a huge subject and the problems will be as you can see from reply number 1, the lines of who actually build ROV’s and operate them is blurred.
I do not know what you are selling or intend to hawk around the streets but the one word you will find incorrect in your request is, “cash-rich oil and gas industry” you will find nothing will be bought for the vehicles unless there is a commercial advantage in replacing “What we know has worked for the last 30 years..”, right?
Good luck

Thanks for your replies.
DanF, I am not selling or advertising anything at all. The "cash-rich" comment was off hand and I apologise if it seemed otherwise.
I am writing a short paragraph on ROVs in my college report and therefore came here to see if I could get a rough idea of how many ROVs there are working commercially, and in particular, in oil and gas and renewable construction.
I am not looking for an in-detail breakdown, just a general idea about how many ROVs there are and who supplies them.
Thank you for your advice DanF and Geo, perhaps this is an unanswerable question.
Thanks
Chris

Dear Chris,
On my last count I believe there are 703 WROV's working, for an estimated 29 different companies.
They might not all be working but they are on the company balance sheets as assets.
There are more but I have restricted my tally to companies with 4 or more ROV's.
I have no count on Eyeball or Micro ROV's

Thats great DanF, thanks a lot!
Is that tally from a website you know of? Is there some public website that gives such information out? I've looked around before posting on here, but I couldn't find any.
Or is it your own database?
I'm just checking to see who I reference in my report.
Thanks again!

Dan is an ROV Spotter, he writes them all down in a little book!
