China ROV operator and client jailed ?

Has anyone heard or know for sure of a China ROV operator having some employees jailed recently?

Was told by a decent source that some of the China ROV company people along with the some of their clients in China had been jailed recently due to some dodgy dealings with new ROV they purchase.

This is not confirmed as i have it second hand so if anyone knows different please jump in and correct me.

There was an incident about 18 months ago where a US citizen had to pay a large bribe to leave the country and avoid jail after he attacked a UK supervisor in a bar over operational details.The company also came under the spotlight for infringements by the authorities and probably backhanders were paid. Some of you guys know who i am talkig about , China is the real wild East.

ah yes, if I remember the individuals concerned both posted responses on this web-site.

Sounds like BlueWhale ! As they have had problems in the past .

I have it from a very reliable source that the company in China is now over.
it would seem that the CEO has done something so dodgy that the Chinese police are scouring the globe for him and arresting everyone he knows, including using snatch squads at Hong Kong airport.
Only good thing about this is that the sole ex-pat stuck it out and made sure everyone got paid even though it put him at risk.

That agency is just fishing for CVs to build a portfolio. They don't have anything.

My question is what operator is in China not which agency wants to market over there...

Only Chinese operator I know of is COOEC (division of CNOOC). Sunsub have had some ROV's there now for years, not sure, but think it is two rov's on the same job. Fugro was also out there last year as they have a office there, mainly for survey. Oceaneering also had a system there as part of the Blue Whale contract, but lost one.

The two Agencies that have asked for CV's are both hunting the COOEC contract. Think there is also a newly formed company from Aus and I'm sure a host of other guys.

Will have to wait and see who gets it and what rate they will be paying. I was there with Blue Whale and got $800/day. Even though the industry is slow at the moment, work conditions there does not allow for a rate less than that.

There are 3 Chinese ROV operators all based in Shenzhen. COOEC Subsea Technology, China Offshore Fugro Geophysical and Bluesea (now part of DIV the surface diving company).
The agencies are indeed chasing the COOEC program for 2011 which requires something like 16 guys maximum to operate 5 ROV systems (1 very old Venom, 2 nearly new Quantum and two brand new Quantum). Two problems are COOEC are insistent on using one ex-pat per shift plus lots of Chinese trainees and TAX.
COOEC have actually sent out ex-pat tax declaration forms with the tender documents.
The reason for the CV portfolios is that COOEC have requested 20 CVs with the tender and inside information is that they expect to use the guys whose CVs they get. All of the host vessels are Chinese with four of the systems to be mobiised to Chinese lay or derrick barges, which will be grim.

Wow, lets see when the contract is finally handed out. Sure that whatever happens the conditions will be sugarcoated big time.
