The 457 Visa is what i am after and also about market rates i understand Offshore Sparkies earning 200,000 + Aus a year Offshore Australia. I also have worked in Aus on union Rates back in 90's As a Spark A Grade so i am well aware of market conditions.

Like i said its not a ROV Contract.

I am also well aware of guys down there in Aus on UK rates doing Subsea contracts and also the UK Agency offering this work is at 430 GBP.

If these Agencies were to be 'exposed', it would benefit those residents and non-residents wanting to work legally in Oz in the long run.

These guys working for that are just as bad as those infiltrating the North Sea for less than the locals.

This was an e-mail sent to me about a position from a friend in Singapore then its been turned around by HAYS and the company asking me to go into Aus.

Dear ----
As discussed on the phone, we are currently recruiting for an ROV Pilot Technician for a 30-day swing assignment based in Argentina offshore.

Our Client is an Australian company whose service is in demand within the global offshore Oil & Gas Market. They have contracts around the globe, so ongoing freelance roles a definite possibility.

The confirmed candidate will be required to arrange for immediate mobilization on or before 18 June 2010.

If you have friends who are interested in this opportunity, please let them know they are welcome to write / call in for a discussion.

Thank you.

Hays Oil & Gas Singapore

That was the position i was originally interested in i have all ready told hays i can not go due to TAX and rates into Aus.

This seems to be happening alot in Australia, especially in the ROV industry,
companies based in Australia bringing personell in from overseas on the cheap on these 457 visas.Apparently they are easy to get.So much for Australias strict immigration policies and looking after Australian workers. All this if it is allowed to carry on will eventually drive the dayrates down just like it has everywhere else. The unions here dont seem to be particularly interested either.

Not sure why so many of you guys dont read the post the position is not an ROV contract so there fore does not come under those rates.

There also is quite possible NO award rate for the job title of which i dont know what it is anyway.

The position is a Technician on Subsea Equipment so Technician or Operator

On a 457 you also have to pay a certain wage thats all.

They are paying around 63 AUS a hour while i know its no where near were it should be its the way it is.

They get away with paying that as most who do the contracts dont pay AUS TAX. Other wise the rate would need to be over 100 AUS Hourly.

Although this is diverging, offshore ROV work in Australia is never based on an hourly rate full stop.

The appropriate day rates have been posted by people on this website, use them as a guide because you may get better rates but you should never get lower ones.

You could also factor in 9% superannuation contributions by the employer as this is a government dictated obligation even for day rate/casual workers. It doesn't take a Rhodes Scholar to work out that each company will also be required to pay an extra $100 per day just for this if employees are on the correct rates.

About the hourly rate i just divided the amount by 12 thats all its around 750 AUS but paid in Sterling if going through the UK Agency.

The contractors are been brought in from Overseas so no there is no costs to the Employer in AUS other than the invoice paid for sevices per day.

The company is 100% Australian owned and they are saving thousands by bringing in contractors from Overseas.

And just too inform you again its not a ROV position but Offshore yes and its on Woodside.

The job is been crewed from a UK Agency but HAYS in Singapore is trying but they are a waste of space.

What should the rate be for an Offshore Subsea Technician 1400 AUS or so??
