Hey guys, Dont you agree its time to "weed out the dead wood" from this Industry!!!! Its time for all Supers to pull together & keep the P/Ts & Trainees that cut the mustard & get rid of the (Dead Wood)!!!!

Long overdue but as long as companies have competency schemes that they (barely) give lip service to and there is a shortage of people offshore, they will remain.

And of course it also applies to Supervisors as well!

Alrighty,

I personally am very opinionated & have, over the years, found that believe it or not, I'm not always right!!! Yeah, my thoughts exactly!!!

Anyway, having worked with a fair share of what I'm sure you're referring to as 'Dead Wood' I have found that these zimmer jockeys do have their places in an ROV crew.

Yeah, granted they might go back to when they were launching subs off of the Ark & never seem to get oil on their overalls but at the end of the day I would would rather have a fossil beside me when doing some big construction lifts than a hot shot that knows a mate who has or has heard about this and that. End of the day, the guys I've worked with that have been around the block a few times........

1)Aren't scared to shoot the OCM etc down for a bad call.

2)Will scream & shout at the PM when a crew change hasn't came through.

3)Has been through the immigration in Outer Mongolia multiple times & can point you in the right direction.

4)Knows what that random thing on the seabed is when you happen to come across it

5)Knows a temporary random fix for something like the old coke can tether reterm

6)bla, bla, bla & yes, "Mind fan they were fields"

Anyway, as I said. I definately know who I would rather have beside me, even if it means doing all the pm's on my own!

Just my thoughts though, scariest calls by an "experienced hand". Answers on a postcard to................................

I totally agree with the last post, some of the old oak wood are a must in the industry and even though their delivery methods may have been tainted over time the experince is essential to the growth of the young guys.

I have rolled my eyes at a few of the "old grandpa sayings" but in the end have always appreciated the fact that they have took the time to pass the knowledge on to those that listen.

I say keep the aged until they decide to retire they toe caps and then hope to god that you have learned enough to survive in the deep blue without them.

Cheers

R.,

Real important that second sentence was / is...

....took the time to pass the knowledge on to those that listen.

to those that listen... instead of "why don't I do it this way???" Or (one of my major peeves) "You didn't say that!!!" or "Oh no, it's definitely over here..." the list goes on...
I got your economic downturn right here!!!

Whether they are good or bad , Those ZF's ( Zimmer Framers ) give you experience rightly or wrongly ! It's called apprentiship. If you have any brains , you will sort out what experience is relevant and utilise this knowledge on future jobs.
That's why our industry is so uniquie.
Dead wood in deed Confused You are acting like a teenager thinking you know aaaaaaallllll the answers Rolling Eyes
You never cease to learn in this industry , 'Youngman' That's my advice to you Shocked
