Reports to: Drill Support & ROV Manager

Job Scope:
Responsible for project management activities on Drill Support Business Line projects. Primary responsibility is for the management of offshore operations after contract award.
Ultimate responsibility for project execution including, where required, delivery of final results.

Responsibilities:
• Ensure awareness, understanding and control of all commercial and technical matters relating to the content of the project or contract;
• Ensure proper budgetary control on all project costs; prepare / review and approve invoices; recover costs from third parties where appropriate; deal effectively with any client invoicing disputes;
• Ensure fieldwork is efficiently planned; liaise with clients to ensure all parties are fully informed of mobilisation/planning arrangements;
• Provide a written project briefing to all relevant departments, and the project team; attend mobilisation for offshore worksite briefing if appropriate;
• Select the project team in co-operation with department manager and operations department;
• Provide input to tenders and contract negotiation in association with the Commercial Department;
• Co-ordinate with Commercial Department to ensure a smooth handover of the project from tendering to operational phase;
• Ensure regular communication with the client throughout the work; document any changes to specification / work scope or claims. Follow up verbal discussions with written confirmation;
• Pre-plan and co-ordinate mobilisation and demobilisation with assistance from operations department, other business lines and department managers;
• Work as part of a team, assisting other Project Managers on large / multi-opco projects as required;
• Identify personal training needs and bring them to the attention of the Business Line Manager;
• Continually seek to improve project performance thus assisting in maintaining a competitive edge for further development. This may include identification of new methods and technology and cost reductions.
• Involved in all aspects of mentoring and management of offshore teams

Unless it can be proven (by the company doing the withholding) where your money is going, and that it is legally being withheld, walk away or accept the fact that you are agreeing in advance to a 20% day rate cut.

Imagine if a company withholds 20% of your day rate, doesn't pass it on to the relevant tax authorities and then goes bust. You'll never claim a thing back. These are not plucked out of the air figures. I know what a couple of the companies would pay me direct and know what I get from an agency for the same company. I have also been in the position of taking guys through an agency and know what they got in there hand.

There are always cases when the agency takes more but an agency would probably never go below 10%.

As for what day rate to expect. Currently that is what you are prepared to work for. If you think you are worth £400 a day ask for it the company may say yes or no and offer you less. That is what negotiation is about. Obviously initially ask for more than you expect.
Speak to an accountant about IR35 it is not as scary as it sounds and neither is CIS or even VAT which you can quickly run into if you are a LTD company. Also don't forget you need to have your own insurance cover if you are self employed working direct or a LTD company that will be around £800-£1100 a year depending on what cover you need.
