The Offshore operations manager for Diamond Offshore Drilling International has been shot dead in an attempted carjacking in Brazil.
Peter Campsie, 48, was killed by two gunmen in Rio de Janeiro as he returned home to his family after a business meeting last Wednesday. He was shot twice as he attempted to flee to his vehicle.
Campsie, from Montrose, Angus, UK, had worked in Brazil for 16 years and lived in the city of Macae, north of Rio, with his wife and 10-year old daughter. He is survived by two sons and his mother, brother, and sister in Scotland.
The shooting comes in the wake of the Brazilian government's deployment of federal troops to address crime in Rio de Janeiro.

Almost 3,000 Brazilian troops are being utilized to confront powerful drug gangs in main areas of the city ahead of the World Cup.
Campsie's family released a statement saying, "He was a man who loved life and brought so much joy and laughter to those around him. Wherever Pete went, the good times followed. A darkness has fallen on us all as we try and make sense of why Pete had to die in the prime of his life."
The family continued, "He was a loyal friend and father, brother and son who cared deeply about making sure everyone got the best out of their lives. Our anchor has been pulled away so cruelly."
According to reports, Campsie died at the scene of the attack in the late afternoon in the Niteroi municipality. The gunman fled the scene empty-handed.
A spokesperson for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office stated: "We were made aware of the death of a British national in Brazil on April 2. We stand ready to provide consular assistance to the family at this difficult time."
