Onshore News: No Foreign Staff Back To In Amenas Until Security Issues Resolved, Says Oil Gian

The Press & Journal Staff have begun returning to Algeria following a terrorist siege last year – but a leading oil operators has warned it will not send expatriate workers to the site of the attack until security is improved.

Forty workers, including three British workers, were killed during a four-day siege at the In Amenas gas plant in Algeria last January.

Amenas Gas Plant in Algeria BP, along with other operators, have begun returning staff to the In Salah gas plant in the country, but the company warned it was waiting to complete security arrangements at In Amenas before deploying foreign workers there.

“We do have some people back at In Salah but not at In Amenas,” said a spokesman for the company.

“We are still trying to finalise the security arrangements that will be in place, but it’s all moving in the right direction.

“”At In Salah, we normally only have a handful of expatriates – about 15 or 20. We only have twos or threes there at the moment.”

The inquest into the terrorist attack is due to be held in London in September this year.
