Contract runs through 2017, Global Marine vessel Wave Venture to be based out of Victoria, British Columbia
Global Marine Systems, the independent market leader in offshore cable installation, maintenance and related engineering services, has been awarded the maintenance contract for the North America Zone (NAZ). The contract begins in 2012, extends through 2017 and covers a telecommunications cable maintenance footprint which stretches from the Eastern North Pacific down to the Equator. The cable maintenance vessel Wave Venture will be dedicated to maintaining the telecommunications cables within this geography, and be berthed at the Global Marine cable depot located in Victoria, British Columbia.
“Maintaining submarine telecommunications cables has been our core business for well over a century.” said John Walters, Director of Subsea Cable Maintenance for Global Marine Systems. “We appreciate the confidence placed in us by the NAZ members and look forward to ensuring that their cables are effectively protected. We realize that the resilience of communication networks across the Pacific is of critical importance and Global Marine is proud to be of service.”
The award of the contract will be a welcome return for Wave Venture and re-establishes a Global Marine presence in Victoria which spanned a 15 year period between 1991 and 2006. Wave Venture is configured specifically for maintaining offshore telecommunications cables with a ST200 series ROV, sufficient on-ship cable storage and on board COTDR equipment for detecting faults in ultra-long haul submarine cable systems.
Wave Venture is scheduled to drydock in Asia, transit to Portland, Oregon to load cable and arrive in April 2012 at its base in Victoria, British Columbia.
