A strong technical program with 200 technical paper presentations has been announced for the inaugural 2011 OTC Brasil event, which will be held 4-6 October in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Online registration is open for the new event presented by the Offshore Technology Conference, which is expected to attract a large global attendance.
"The high-quality technical program covers a wide range of topics related to deepwater offshore development in Brazil, as well as global offshore projects and HSE and regulatory issues. The program was developed using the OTC model, which brings together leading experts from its 12 sponsoring societies representing every aspect of the offshore E&P industry to create a comprehensive technical conference. The program committee selected the top 200 technical paper abstracts from 19 countries, including 67 abstracts from Brazil. With 685 abstracts submitted for this conference, we will present the best of the best," said David Brookes of BP EPTF, who serves as co-chairman of the program committee with Ricardo Juiniti Bernardo of OGX Petroleo & Gas.
In addition to the OTC sponsoring societies, OTC Brasil also has three supporting societies in Brazil: Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Química (ABEQ), Associação Brasileira de Geólogos de Petróleo (ABGP), and Sociedade Brasileira de Geofísica (SBGf).

In addition to technical papers, OTC Brasil will present 12 special sessions, with plenary sessions, panel sessions and topical luncheons each day. Presentations from Shell, OGX, Latin American national oil companies and service companies will discuss current and future projects in the region, including the following topics:
- BP: Macondo oil spill response and lessons in a Brazil framework
- South America versus West Africa: petroleum systems and geological differences or similarities
- Technology and skills development: the role of universities and industry
- Brazilian regulatory regime for offshore oil and gas development
- Challenges, logistics and infrastructure
- Innovative financial options for offshore projects in challenging economical times
A Young Professionals workshop will be held on Wednesday for attendees age 35 and younger, offering the opportunity for young professionals to polish their skills, learn from industry leaders and network with their peers.
The exhibition has been expanded because of strong company interest, and currently has 292 confirmed exhibitors and 14,307 total square meters of space in both Pavilions 1 and 3.
