One year later, Suriname-Guyana Submarine Cable System (SG-SCS) continues flawless performanceHuawei Marine Networks, along with parent Global Marine Systems, are pleased to announce the first anniversary of the initial commercial deployment of the Huawei Marine Networks' innovative RPT 1660 two fiber pair Repeater and 1650 Branching Unit. The technology was Implemented as part of the SG-SCS cable system in May 2010, the Repeater and Branching Unit technology have performed flawlessly since going live, over one year ago.


Due to increased bandwidth demand from South America as well as increased demand via other area submarine networks to Miami, the SG-SCS system has been seamlessly upgraded three times over the past year and is currently implementing further expansions, clearly demonstrating the flexibility and stability of the HMN technology.

A key benefit for the owners has been the ease at which new services can be simply 'turned-on' with the click of a mouse, representing a simplified operational model and a robust design. The SG-SCS system, contains advanced ASON functionality as well as a rich service set all based upon easily upgradable (10G to 40G) Submarine Line Terminal Equipment (SLTE). HMN Network Protection Equipment (NPE) offers the customers an in-service roadmap ranging from SDH, optical wavelengths and Gigabit/Ethernet based client services, among many others.

"Over a year since deployment the owners are truly benefiting from the rapid service turn up functionality and the innovated repeater design, developed through many years of engineering."

With the network elements (cable landing station equipment, city POP locations and wet plant) all managed from a single network management system the customers are able to provision and monitor new services in a very simple and efficient manner. Streamlining the operational aspects of the system had been a key reason why this innovative technology was originally selected, and it has performed as specified.

SG-SCS is a project jointly undertaken by Telesur of Suriname & Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Co. Ltd. It was installed by Global Marine Systems (www.globalmarinesystems.com).with Global Marine's joint venture partner, Huawei Marine Networks (www.huaweimarine.com) supplying the electronics and the innovative RPT 1660 repeaters and the 1650 Branching Unit, used in the system.

Huawei Marine Networks is a joint venture established by Global Marine Systems and Huawei Technologies, combining over 160 years of subsea engineering expertise with the innovative optical products.
