The Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) in Kawasaki will install an ATLAS PARASOUND P70 deep-sea sediment echosounder system on-board their new research vessel Hakurei Maru No.3.
ATLAS HYDROGRAPHIC received the order from its local Japanese partner, Science Engineering Associates Corporation (SEA) of Chiba, who will deliver the system to MHI Shimonoseki Shipyards and Machinery Works from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
End user is the Metals Mining Technology Department of the Deep Sea Mineral Exploration & Technology Division of JOGMEC. JOGMEC, being the successor of former JNOC and MMAJ, is in charge of securing supply of oil and natural gas, non-ferrous metal, mineral resources and implementation of mine pollution control measures.
JOGMEC will utilise the new ATLAS PARASOUND to support their efforts in exploration and exploitation of marine natural resources. The higher flexibility of the ATLAS PARASOUND, its outstanding performance in sub-bottom and especially water column profiling will be an important benefit to JOGMEC.
The system configuration consists of ATLAS PARASOUND P70 sensor, ATLAS HYDROMAP CONTROL software for sensor steering and control, ATLAS PARASTORE software for data acquisition, storage and visualisation as well as remote maintenance capability. The flush-mounted transducer array is installed in a stainless steel transducer casing directly into the ship's hull.
The local services on site cover installation and setting-to-work of the system, customer acceptance tests in harbour area and at open sea as well as training of software and hardware components inclusive routine practical survey work on site and basis maintenance. The system is intended to be in operation in March 2011.
