Perry Slinsgby wins contract for Triton XLR ROV systemSubsea specialist Perry Slingsby Systems (PSS), a member of the Triton Group, has been awarded a contract by Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC)  to enhance its deepwater exploration activities with their first state of the art Triton XLR ROV system.

The contract will see PSS supply a 3,000m Triton XLR system designed specifically to meet the requirements for JOGMEC's worldwide research program. The new Triton XLR will be completed in March 2011 and will be installed on JOGMEC's new oceanographic research vessel.

The system is equipped with ICE® net controls, PSS's ROVDP and is further enhanced with a full suite of high definition video and recording equipment.

PSS, part of Aberdeen-based Triton Group, will provide a complete training program for the JOGMEC engineers and will support the interface and installation services from its Asia Pacific base in Singapore.

Triton's regional director for Asia Pacific, Bruce Lokay, said: "We are pleased to welcome JOGMEC as our newest regional client and an additional customer for us in Japan. This contract is the result of an integrated approach led by PSS and supported by additional Triton companies; GEMS and Seafloor Geoservices providing the geotechnical interface, VisualSoft providing the high definition recording and data storage systems, Sub Atlantic providing many of the Triton XLR's hydraulic systems, Vmax providing simulation and training support and UKPS Offshore providing the sea trials and initial operations capability.

'Our capability to offer a fully integrated systems approach, from a single source, is clearly a benefit for our regional and global clients. The Triton XLR is proving to be a very robust and versatile platform for all of our markets, including oil and gas, deepwater scientific research and military applications. We see a very strong demand for this system in the Asia Pacific region and globally as well."

Triton offers state-of-the-art subsea technologies and related services to the oil & gas and other underwater industries. Through its PSS and Sub-Atlantic brands Triton manufactures a wide range of market leading hydraulic and electric subsea remote operating vehicles (ROVs) for inspection, survey and light intervention duties, through to deepwater heavy construction applications.

Triton also offers a comprehensive range of ancillary remote intervention products and tooling systems as well as operational services such as offshore personnel recruitment, equipment rentals, management and servicing through its DPS Offshore division. Its GEMS and SGI divisions provide geosciences project management and data analysis and seabed geotechnical coring, while the Visualsoft and VMAX divisions offer software products and services in physics-based simulation and 3D visualization, digital video editing and data management applications.

In August this year, Triton became part of the global energy products group, Forum Energy Technologies.
