This was the first assignment for the cable ship after a comprehensive rebuilding at the shipyard in England. Fantastic weather and a perfectly problem free operation made Nexans Skagerrak's comeback a very special experience.
"The water at Lista is rarely this calm and the job was done a whole hour ahead of schedule. I believe the job could not have been done better or quicker," says onshore operations manager Haakon Hamre. 24 persons, including swimmers, were involved at the onshore end and around 40 persons, led by Thomas Tjønnteig, were involved in the operation on board Nexans Skagerrak.
First in the world
From fall 2011, this cable will be the only power supply to the Valhall field, and Valhall will be the world's first offshore production field to be exclusively run by electric power from onshore. When the gas turbines on Valhall close down, it will save the environment for about 300,000 tons of CO2 a year.
