Tele-Fonika Cable Americas supplies 40 kilometers of 777 MCM TorsionFlex Tower Cable to Horizon Wind Energy LLC Houston, TX for two major wind energy projects; TOP CROP, Illinois and MEADOW LAKE, Indiana. Horizon is the owner and developer, Sargent and Lundy Chicago, IL is the engineering design firm.
TORSIONFLEX is a rubber insulated cable which runs between the generator and the transformer, whether it is located at the base of the tower, or high above in the nacelle. TorsionFlex also is designed to provide energy for various motors and electronic devices. Tele-Fonika's TORSIONFLEX cables ensure superior performance under extreme environmental conditions. Cable ratings RHW-2 DLO 2KV -40ºC+90ºC UL 44 / ICEA / CSA-C 22.2 No38 and FMSC 1KV -40ºC+90ºC UL 2277.
About TOP CROP
Top Crop Phase1 currently has an installed capacity of 102 MW, enough to power 31,000 average homes. Construction of Top Crop 1 began in April 2009 and went into service in October 2009. Phase 1 consists of 68 GE1.5 MW SLE turbines. An additional 198 MW Phase 2 is under construction and is scheduled for completion mid - 2010. When all Phases are completed TOP CROP power generation will total 600 MW, enough power to supply electricity to 180,000 homes.
About MEADOW LAKE
Meadow Lake Phase1 currently has an installed capacity of 200 MW - enough to power approximately 60,000 average homes. Construction of Meadow Lake 1 began in April 2009 and went into service October 2009. Phase 1 consists of 121 Vestas V82 1.65 MW turbines. Phase 2 currently under construction consists of 66 Acciona turbines and will provide 99MW of power. Planned Phases 3 - 6 will provide between 100 to 200 MW of power and potentially total 660 turbines.
