Corpus Christi to become "Submarine-Town USA"Coastal Bend Business Innovation Center client Sub-See Adventures and Silvercrest Submarines, one of the submersible industry leaders from the UK are seeking to bring submersible and ROV manufacturing to the Corpus Christi area. This week they are meeting with the Corpus Christi Regional Economic Development Corporation and the City Mayor's Office to discuss possible sites to open a shipyard and state of the art submersible manufacturing plant.

Silvercrest Submarines is the UK company that is supplying the first two state of the art MP26 tourist submarines to Sub-See Adventures. Douglas Oxborrow, CEO of Sub-See Adventures says that they will be opening five tourist submarine dive locations throughout the Caribbean within the next five years. They are currently obtaining the permissions and permits required to be the first tourist submarine operation on the island of Jamaica in December of this year. They will establish two 24 passenger submarines in Falmouth, Jamaica to coincide with the opening of the new Falmouth Cruise Terminal. The new Falmouth Terminal will be the newest port for both of the world's largest cruise ships, both from Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.

Representatives of Silvercrest Submarines are in town this week for further discussions on a partnership with Sub-See Adventures and to tour possible locations for the new manufacturing facility.

One of the watercraft they plan to produce will be a new personal submersible that has a proprietary design they have yet to reveal to the general public. According to Douglas Oxborrow, "We have the design and the technology to produce a new submersible similar to having a fully contained jet-ski that has the ability to go under the water and travel submerged. It will be as economical to purchase as a good fishing boat and will allow the owner and one passenger to safely explore areas that could only previously be seen by scuba divers and will potentially make personal submarines commonplace."

Sub-See Adventures is a client of the Coastal Bend Innovation Center in association with Texas A&M University Corpus Christi who's mission is to enable and accelerate the growth of emerging innovative companies for the purpose of creating jobs, promoting entrepreneurial economic development endeavors and providing executive level education to the greater south Texas Coastal Bend area.
