Hydroid Inc. announced today that they have recently received an order from the Royal Netherlands Navy for two (2) REMUS Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) systems. After a successful Nato trial in the port of Rotterdam, the Royal Netherlands Navy acquired two vehicles for national use. Upon delivery, these vehicles will follow a broad introduction program into the Royal Netherlands Navy.
During this introduction and evaluation phase, a wide range of missions will be executed. With this procurement, the Royal Netherlands Navy enters the list of AUV users, while broadening its capabilities.
Kevin McCarthy, Hydroid’s vice president of marketing stated that “Hydroid is pleased by the further expansion of the REMUS technology into NATO navies.” He further announced that additional contracts are presently being negotiated, as are additional trials in 2005.
Hydroid Inc. holds the exclusive license from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution for the manufacture and further development of the REMUS Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) technology.
