IXSEA has completed the sale of two Global Acoustic Positioning Systems (GAPS) to Unique System (UK) Ltd, a leading service and rental company supporting hydrographic survey, offshore construction, oceanographic, environmental and diving activities worldwide.
The units will be available for hire by Unique System customers in the UK, India and the Middle East, where there has been particular interest in the technology.
GAPS is designed for high-accuracy tracking of ROVs, AUVs, divers and sonar or other towed systems. It can be used in a wide range of water depths, but it performs particularly well in extremely shallow, acoustically noisy waters. The units are pre-calibrated and very simple to operate, being capable of deployment in less than an hour.
IXSEA regional sales manager, Jean-Marc Binois, said: "Subsea positioning within the offshore industry in the Middle East has been transformed since the introduction of GAPS to the region a few years ago. Operators have been impressed by the accuracy, reliability and portability of units that combine acoustic positioning, inertial navigation and GPS technologies."
Ray Hughes, managing director, Unique System UK Ltd, said" "We are very pleased to add this latest positioning technology to our rental pool. Our purchase of the two GAPS units is in direct response to growing demand for them from our customers."
GAPS is the second IXSEA technology to be bought by Unique System. The rental company also offers its customers OCTANS gyrocompass and motion sensor units.
