Petrobras selects NASNet for use on the deepest production subsea field developm

Nautronix have successfully deployed NASNet on the Cascade/Chinook development in the Gulf of Mexico for Brazilian Oil Major Petrobas. The award of the contract was a major achievement for the company; the first rental of the NASNet field wide system directly to an operator and the first time that NASNet will be commercially used in the Gulf of Mexico.
The scope of supply included 14 NASNet sleds, 22 NASNet MS units and all associated vessel equipment for a 2 year rental. The total contract value is believed to be worth in excess of $6.5 million.
As Brazil's National Oil Company and leaders in deepwater field developments, this endorsement from Petrobras truly highlights the benefits NASNet can offer subsea operations. The systems advantages in terms of performance and cost saving in vessel time are merits which won Nautronix the contract after a competitive tender process against companies offering traditional systems.
CEO Mark Patterson commented: "This is a significant step in driving NASNet forward into the global marketplace. The initial contract is for the Construction phase however as this project moves on to several other phases we hope to see NASNet fulfilling its design intentions as a life of field system. This really is fantastic news for the company and will be key to our further growth in the coming year"
It is anticipated that all vessels coming in to the Cascade/Chinook field with be fitted with NASNet topside equipment and ROV receivers. Mr Patterson explained "having this equipment allows them to take full advantage of the field wide signals with little or no set up time, which in its self saves considerable days of vessel time".
Nautronix has invested over $22 million US dollars in the last 7 years into the research and development of NASNet and its ADS2 technology The system, described as an 'underwater GPS' system, provides positioning and communication for subsea oil and gas projects. It has already been successful with large scale deployments on the Agbami field, Offshore West Africa and Frade offshore Brazil where significant cost savings have been achieved through its use.
