The news that Tyneside is to be the home of the new Marine Management Organisation, set up to regulate and manage the sea around England, has been greeted enthusiastically by The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST).
"We would like to congratulate Tyneside on this exciting news," says IMarEST's Chief Executive, Keith Read CBE. "We have a particularly active branch with 782 members in the Tyneside area, so I know I speak on behalf of all of them. This is indeed a great day for an area with such a long and strong connection with all sectors of the maritime industry.
"We welcome the creation of this new centre of marine expertise which will provide a much needed consistent and unified approach, and deliver improved coordination of information and data. As a ‘one-stop shop' it will undoubtedly be of great help to the marine community as a whole, and our members in particular, who have, up until now, had to deal with a raft of separate organisations. We look forward to working with members of the MMO team in the months and years ahead."
