Subsea 7 marks its sixtieth bundle milestone on North Sea project

Subsea 7 Inc, one of the world's leading subsea engineering and construction companies, has announced that it has successfully launched and installed its sixtieth pipeline bundle* - a 1.3km pipeline bundle for BP's Machar field.
Subsea 7 was awarded the $22 million fast-track contract earlier this year. The pipeline bundle incorporates a 12" sleeve system containing a dry-insulated 8" lined production pipeline, 6" plastic lined water injection flowline, 3" gas lift line, electrical power and signal cables and hydraulic and chemical controls tubing. The bundle was launched from Wick in the North of Scotland on December 8th 2008 and offshore operations were completed on 16th December 2008.
Robin Davies, Subsea 7's North Sea Vice-President commented, "Subsea 7 has been using bundle technology now for over 30 years and it is still very important in both North Sea and international subsea developments, neatly incorporating all structures, valve work, pipelines and control systems necessary to operate a field. The safe and timely completion of the BP Machar bundle launch and installation demonstrates the capabilities of Subsea 7 in undertaking fast-track projects such as this and we are delighted to have assisted BP in bringing the Machar field on-stream."
The project has been managed and engineered from Subsea 7's offices in Aberdeen. Subsea 7 provided project management, detailed design, fabrication, onshore testing, subsea tow and installation of the 1.3km pipeline bundle. Bundle fabrication was undertaken at Subsea 7's Wester bundle fabrication base in the north of Scotland.
* The Pipeline Bundle product integrates the required flow lines, water injection, gas lift and control systems necessary for any subsea development and assembles them within a steel carrier pipe. At each end of the pipeline, the structures, manifolds, incorporating equipment and valves, designed specifically to the requirements of the field, are attached. The fully tested system is then launched and transported to the location using the Controlled Depth Tow Method. Once installed no trenching or rock dumping is required.
