Fugro investing in new AADI technology

Fugro investing in new AADI technologyContinuing investment in new technology is key to the success of Fugro GEOS; and this is well demonstrated by the third delivery of Aanderaa SEAGUARDs. Fugro GEOS has now ordered a total of 45 SEAGUARDs to deploy on various projects around the world providing ample proof of the company’s confidence in the new Recording Current Meter (RCM). Deployments to date include deep water moorings in Cuba, East Africa, Gulf of Mexico and Caspian, and comparisons with ADCPs deployed off rigs west of Shetlands and in Norway.

The RCMs are used primarily for current speed and direction, and the standard measurement of temperature, pressure and conductivity (salinity), but the new smart sensors on the SEAGUARD now also record turbidity and dissolved oxygen.

"Thanks to its range of new 'smart sensors, the SEAGUARD can be customised to meet the client's needs very easily. The new current sensor employs acoustic pulses which reduce the statistical error with fewer pings, which means we can increase the sampling speed and consume less power. These high frequency measurements combined with state of the art high capacity memory cards ensure that we deliver higher resolution data over longer periods to the client." says Alastair Stagg, Operations Manager. "They have proven to be easy to use and deploy, and have delivered excellent data return."

The SEAGUARD RCM series is a completely new generation of current meters based on the SEAGUARD datalogger platform and the ZPulse Doppler Current Sensor1. Modern computer technology combined with advanced digital signal processing provides accurate and detailed measurements with almost unlimited resolution. The new SEAGUARD RCM series come in 300m, 2000m and 6000m depth ranges.

The SEAGUARD new generation RCM follows on from a line of reliable and successful Aanderaa RCMs developed over the years. The photo shows three generations of Aanderaa RCMs held by Fugro GEOS management.
