Posted on 15.12.2008 - 16:50 EST in GENERAL NEWS by Rons_ROV_Links

The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for two remaining crew members from a helicopter crash two miles (3.2 km) off the coast of Sabine Pass. The search began on Dec. 11 after the Coast Guard operations center in New Orleans received a call from Broussard, La.-based helicopter leasing company Rotorcraft that one of its helicopters had failed to report in at a scheduled time.

The Coast Guard rescue team located three bodies and debris from the helicopter, which was heading to an unmanned platform eighteen miles (29 km) offshore. The Coast Guard searched around 1,000 square miles (2,589 sq km) during its search and rescue effort.

Coast Guard units involved included an MH-65 rescue helicopter crews from Air Station Houston, a Falcon jet crew from Air Station Corpus Christi, small rescue boat crews from Station Sabine, USCG Cutter Heron from Sabine and USCG Cutter Skipjack from Galveston.
