U.S. Navy sub rescue system certified for manned operationsOceanWorks International is pleased to announce that the U.S. Navy has completed certification of its new sub rescue system for manned operations under its Deep Submergence Systems Program (DSSP). Manned certification marks the successful completion of OceanWorks’ role as Designer and System Integrator for the SRS-RCS (Submarine Rescue System, Rescue Capable System), and is the culmination of a seven year development program that has extended the boundaries of submarine rescue technology to new limits.

To reach this major milestone, the system had to demonstrate full compliance with the U.S. Navy’s DSSP certification standard, NAVSEA P9290. Demonstration included rigid quality assurance and safety audits throughout the development program, extensive technical evaluation, and stringent operational testing, culminating in a manned dive to 2000 ft. Upon completion of a comprehensive operational evaluation (OPEVAL), the system will enter service in the summer of 2008, and will replace the existing U.S. submarine rescue asset, the DSRV Mystic.
