General Robotics Limited (GRL) celebrates 20th anniversaryGeneral Robotics Limited (GRL), the leading supplier of subsea simulators, is celebrating 20 years of technical innovation and customer support in the subsea industry.

GRL was founded in 1988 by the late Professor David Broome of University College London. In the early years the company focussed on robotic control systems with products such as ARM, an advanced subsea manipulator for weld inspection, and Sewercat, a control and visualisation system to track and drive a tracked ROV for cleaning the Sydney sewers.

With the development of deepwater drilling in the oil and gas industries and the emergence of ROVs as crucial construction and maintenance tools, the emphasis shifted to ROV training simulators that reduce training costs offshore. The most recent development brings these simulation systems to the desktop to give engineers rapid prototyping tools for mission planning and task rehearsal providing on-the-job feedback.

GRL employs a staff totalling 16 people based in Milton-Keynes and Aberdeen. GRL believes that central to its success is the exceptional quality of the company's engineers some of whom have been with the company since it began.

"We are pleased to be celebrating our 20th anniversary and I'm very proud of our innovative team which has kept us in the lead in an industry where technological advances are rapid and demanding," said Dr Jason Tisdall, Managing Director, General Robotics Limited.
