CSIP, a UK based, wholly owned subsidiary of ECA SA specialising in design, development, manufacturing and support controlled systems, introduced its underwater 5 Function Manipulator Arm at Oceanology International, London, between March 11th - 13th 2008. The 5 Function Arm joins a range of standard and bespoke underwater manipulators that work in conjunction with remote marine vehicles.
CSIP supply their parent company ECA with all components for complete marine vehicle production service. Standard units are electric, hydraulic or water powered and are built for small object retrieval and articulation. These latest designs are based on existing proven technology but incorporate various improvements.
This is highlighted by the 5 Function Manipulator Arm which benefits from being lighter in weight, is fitted with larger bore arms and has an integral centreline extender. It has been designed for high power small electric ROVs that require powerful yet compact manipulator systems. All of the Function Manipulators are produced from either aluminium or titanium and expect to have life spans of over 25 years.
In addition to the Function Manipulators is the pan and tilt range, CSIP offers a low cost pan and tilt unit that features a fully enclosed drive system, capable of oil or hydraulic operation. Constant rotation speed is given on both axis of 180 tilt and 360 pan allowing for full rearward vision. Position feedback is an initial or retrofit option and uses standard rotary potentiometers. All hose runs enter a single point within the electrics allowing simple integration into a camera whip.
CSIP can design and manufacture machines that are specific to the needs of its clients. This is due to the basic design and modular construction of the Function Underwater Manipulator Arm. It is possible to produce one-off systems configured to suit customer requirements whilst keeping costs down.
