Subsea Telecom News: Subocean lands contract with Centrica

subocean_logoAberdeen-based subsea installation company Subocean has landed a second contract with Centrica on a windfarm development off the Lincolnshire coast.

The seven-figure deal is for the Lynn and Inner Dowsing offshore windfarms and involves the final connection of power and fibre-optic cables to the wind-turbine generators.

Subocean has already been awarded a contract to lay and bury power cables between the wind turbines and to carry out a pre-lay cable route survey, cable route planning and burial assessment surveys.

Subocean operations director Mike Daniel said: "We are forecasting revenues of £40million from renewables in the next two years and the work with Centrica this year has had a significant and positive impact on that ambitious target."

Subocean revealed last month it was on target to see annual turnover soar to £17million this year.

The firm, formed only in 2005, expects to see annual turnover hit £34million by 2009.

Subocean, which employs 40 staff onshore and 150 contractors offshore, anticipates adding further to its workforce in coming months.
