PIPE Networks picks Tyco Telecom for Project RunwayAustralia's PIPE Networks has selected Tyco Telecommunications to supply its Australia-Guam submarine cable system, called Project Runway.

PIPE Networks said in a statement that after a rigorous evaluation process, the Board of Directors selected Tyco Telecom as the preferred supplier for the cable system. Whilst matters relating to pricing will be kept confidential, the board of PIPE Networks said that Tyco Telecom has committed to a target RFP date of end of the fourth quarter of 2008.

This would allow PIPE Networks to interconnect and provision customers in the first quarter of 2009 as previously reported (see TSA NewsFeed for July 9, 2007).

PIPE Networks CEO, Mr. Bevan Slattery said, "The team at Tyco Telecommunications presented a superior offer and demonstrated a level of commitment to Project Runway which was exceptional. We look forward to working with the team over the next month to finalize the schedule prior to the project decision date in September."

PIPE Networks continues to be actively engaged in negotiations, subject to confidentiality and final build approval, of contracts with domestic and international parties.

The company said in its statement that, "PIPE Networks will not proceed with the project unless the firm commitments ensure the financial viability of the project. This is in line with our standard investment philosophy and no investment will be made without the support of sufficient final revenue generating contracts."
