Hallin Marine forms engineering divisionHallin Marine Subsea International plc has formed a wholly-owned engineering division based in the UK.

The new division formed has already proved its worth by designing and supplying an Anode Placement Skid that allowed a Hallin ROV to install 20 sub-sea anodes in 18 hours.

The installation was part of a retrofit program by oil major Total for three platforms some 40kilometres off Pointe Noire, Republic of the Congo, and was carried out with Hallin’s partner in the region, Taurius Diving.

The Hallin 100HP Quasar ROV and skid were mobilized onto the Barge “Mamola Hope” for the project.

In total 90 anodes, each weighing 500kg and 4 meters long, were installed at depths of up to 100mtrs onto horizontal platform members which first needed extensive high pressure cleaning to remove coral and other build up.

The project was run from Hallin West Group’s offices in Aberdeen and completed on schedule despite the strong currents and poor visibility off this area of the African coast and the limited communications and logistics.

Hallin is confident of building on the success of the work and is currently remobilizing for yet another project off Pointe Noire, working on an inspection program.

Hallin created the engineering division in the UK at Malton, North Yorkshire primarily to design and supply remote intervention tooling for itself and other sub-sea operators and contractors.

The managing director for the Hallin West Region, Mike Arnold, is delighted with the start the wholly-owned engineering division has made. Mr Arnold said: “We now have the engineering skills and experience to provide an unrivalled remote intervention tooling facility to the sub-sea industry.”
