ROV NEWS: CSO Wellservicer begins repair work at Hibernia platform

Posted on 16.12.2003 - 07:43 EST in OFFSHORE NEWS by Rons_ROV_Links

Technip Group's flagship diving support vessel CSO Wellservicer has arrived at the Grand Banks in preparation for its repair work at the Hibernia oil platform offshore Newfoundland and Labrador. The 111-metre will repair one of two off-loading systems that transfer Hibernia crude to shuttle tankers each week...

Damage to the upper riser, the flexible pipe that connects to oil tankers, was spotted during a routine inspection in mid-October. Since then, the Hibernia platform has exclusively used its south off-loading system.

Most of the new, 12-metre flexible pipes will be pieced together on the deck of the ship and lowered by winch to the seabed. There, divers and a remote operating vehicle (ROV) will remove the damaged upper riser section and connect the new one.
