Maritime Training and Competence Solutions (MTCS Ltd.) claims the whole subsea industry is getting busier all the time, with companies investing and expanding. One area in which this has been particularly noticeable is in remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). As the demand for ROVs increases, so does the need for qualified ROV Pilot technicians. Fueled by the search for oil in ever deeper waters and utilizing numerous strands of technology, the world of ROVs is breaking new ground to develop ever more sophisticated vehicles, meaning an increased need for pilot technicians. The global demand for ROVs was recently highlighted in a report from analysts, Douglas-Westwood, which revealed that expenditure on work class ROV operations had more than doubled since 2002. The energy analysts predict that by 2012, $1.458B will have been spent in this sector.

  Maritime Training and Competence Solutions Ltd (MTCS) has signed an agreement to market courses and deliver training at a new facility for the subsea sector - the Centre for Subsea Technology Awareness, Training and Education or C-STATE as it is known. This facility is the first of its kind and is a unique collaboration between industry and education.  C-STATE has been created to address the growing skills gap in the subsea engineering and service sectors, by providing an unrivalled platform for specialist training and education - and is offered to the entire industry.


Norway Awards New Licences

 The Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has awarded 24 new production licences following its 22nd licensing round. Of the 24 awards, 20 licences were issued for acreage in the Barents Sea, with just four issued in the Norwegian Sea.


BP Plans $1B in New Investment, Adding Two Drilling Rigs and 200 Jobs in Alaska

 BP announced it is planning to add $1 billion in new investment and two drilling rigs to its Alaska North Slope fields over the next five years due to changes in the state’s oil tax policy signed into law this month by Gov. Sean Parnell.
