First Åsgard subsea compression kit heads to seafloor

STAVANGER, Norway – The North Sea Giant vessel has begun offshore installation of the modules for the Åsgard subsea gas compression project in the Norwegian Sea.

This is designed to extract a further 282 MMbbl from the Åsgard field.


Norway Overtakes Russia as Western Europe's Top Gas Supplier

Norway has overtaken Russia as western Europe's top gas supplier, data from state firms shows, indicating the European Union's drive to reduce its dependence on Russian energy is bearing fruit.

The sharp drop in oil prices has been another factor, as Norway offers more flexible pricing and big buyers held off buying from Russia in the hope the fall in crude price levels would eventually filter through to Russian gas.

 Subsea 7 has informed that a programme of cost reduction measures will be implemented including a re-sizing of the fleet and workforce, and the restructuring of its corporate organisation.

Chevron makes gas discovery in Carnarvon basin, Western Australia

Chevron has made a gas discovery in the Carnarvon hydrocarbon basin, off Western Australia's north-west coast.

Located in the WA-392-P permit area, 95km northwest of Barrow Island, the Isosceles-1 exploration well encountered 134m of net gas pay in the Triassic Mungaroo Sands, in 968m of water.


Consortium Seeks Collaboration; Medical Tools to Solve Industry Problems

Many of the problems that Dr. Alan Lumsden deals with on a daily basis have been solved, but the solutions aren’t available in the medical industry’s toolbox.

Finding technology solutions in other industry’s toolboxes was behind the launch in 2007 of the Pumps and Pipes Consortium, through which members of the oil and gas and medical industries sought to brainstorm ideas on how technologies from each industry could be applied to problems in the other. Since its founding, National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA) has joined in that collaboration.

Possible Eruption of Underwater Volcano Observed

What appears to be an eruption of Axial Volcano was observed in real time by scientists on April 23, thanks to a set of the instruments installed last summer by the University of Washington to bring the deep sea online.


Statoil Wraps Up Shah Deniz Asset Sale

 Statoil and the Malaysian oil and gas company PETRONAS completed their transaction, announced previously on October 13, 2014.


Helix Sees Profit Drop

Houston-based well intervention and robotics specialist, Helix Energy Solutions, recorded earnings of $19.6 million, or $0.19 per diluted share, for the first quarter of 2015 (Q1 2015) compared to earnings of $53.7 million, or $0.51 per diluted share, for the same period in 2014.



With the subsea industry looking to cut costs, Bluestream Offshore has ordered a fourth Saab Seaeye Panther XT Plus ROV to undertake tasks normally performed by hydraulic vehicles.
