Suncor Energy Construction of a new offshore research and development centre at Memorial University is complete, that should pave the way for increased collaborative research focused on solving technical challenges facing Newfoundland and Labrador industries.

 
The new Suncor Energy Offshore R&D Centre will house innovative ocean- and offshore engineering-related R&D projects that will be carried out in collaboration with local and global industry partners.

DNV The completion of a joint industry project (JIP) to improve existing standards and regulations around subsea lifting operations has resulted in a new recommended practice (RP).

 
The recommended practice developed by DNV GL provides guidance on the proper design and correct operation, as well as regular inspection and maintenance, of subsea cranes and lifting appliances. The aim is to reduce the overall risk and safeguard personnel during lifting operations and to improve the integrity and efficiency of equipment throughout its lifetime.

CONTRACT AWARDS

ABB SSE’s networks business, SHE Transmission, has awarded its largest ever Living Wage contract, worth approximately $721 million (£460million), to engineering firm ABB Limited.

 
The contract is part of the Caithness to Moray Transmission Project, the vital new subsea link which will allow more renewable energy to join up to the network in the north of Scotland. It is Scotland’s largest ever Living Wage contract to date and will support at least 600 jobs.

The Indian Navy has sought the assistance of Reliance Industries in undertaking underwater videography of TRV 72, the torpedo recovery vessel that sank about 38 nautical miles off Visakhapatnam coast on November 6, by deploying a Remotely Operated Vessel (ROV) on Tuesday.

It will undertake underwater videography of sunken TRV 72. He was addressing the media on board INS Jalashwa, about 20 nautical miles of Visakhapatnam coast, during a ‘Day at Sea’ programme organised by the ENC, as part of its upcoming Navy Day celebrations.

AgriMarine Technologies Inc. (ATI) is completing the installation of its proprietary tank technology for fish farming in a remote lake on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. The four (4) semi-closed containment, 3,000 cubic meter tanks are designed to float in water bodies, and manage the rearing environment for thousands of fish. The tanks are designed to draw cooler water from greater depths to circulate within the tank, while added oxygen optimizes the environment for the farmed fish. The installation of these massive structures is not only challenging from a logistical but also operational perspective.  The Deep Trekker DTG2 Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) has been used to alleviate many of the difficulties of quickly and reliability performing underwater inspections.
