The St. Louis County Sheriff's Rescue Squad recovered a drowning victim from Lake Superior off Brighton Beach with a VideoRay Pro 4 Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) last Thursday. Led by VideoRay consultants David Phillips and Tom Crossmon, the search & rescue team used the Pro 4 ROV equipped with a Teledyne BlueView P900 series imaging sonar to search for a 31-year-old man who was reported missing late Wednesday night.
Using the ROV prevented the Rescue Squad from having to deploy human divers into the icy lake, where water temperatures were as low as 18°F (-8°C), until they knew the exact location of the victim.
Within 12 hours of being called to the site, searchers were able to locate and recover the victim's body from 10 feet of water.
