Sonardyne International Ltd is pleased to announce one of their largest contracts to-date. Lead integrator Westminster International Ltd has awarded Sonardyne a multi-million dollar contract for the design, supply and installation of a multiple head, networked waterside infrastructure security system in the Middle East.
The integrated system includes a large number of Sentinel diver detection sonar's, integrated with Surface radar and Thermal Imaging cameras to protect a strategic waterside infrastructure in the Middle East region. A long tender process was followed by major system performance trials in April 2011 with integration of above and below water sensors into NIDAR, an innovative maritime domain awareness system that integrates all of the sensor data, along with AIS and satellite information onto a single tactical display with networked access and control of countermeasures. If all options are exercised the NIDAR C2 solution will cover a large number of sensitive sites across a large geographical area and will include a comprehensive centralised command and control centre.
NIDAR is the result of a multi-million Euro, multi-agency European Union Framework 7 research program led by Marine and Remote Sensing Solutions Ltd (MARSS). Designed to provide a cost-effective and intuitive maritime domain awareness solution the groundbreaking system is already operational protecting ports, Oil and Gas platforms, Commercial shipping and Megayachts.
This new contract for such a large permanent installation marks another milestone in the development of the Sentinel system as both an expeditionary and as a multi-sensor system for the protection of waterside and maritime assets. Sentinel is the preferred underwater surveillance system at over 30 sites worldwide with more than 60 systems sold since the first commercial delivery in January 2009. The Sentinel range of underwater sonars now features 3 distinctly different platforms including the Sentinel 1500, a long range system capable of tracking underwater threats out to 1500m with interfaces specially suited to trained sonar operators; the Sentinel 900, the original and most widely used underwater surveillance sonar in the world offering the most efficient and cost effective blend of performance and autonomous operation and the new Sentinel 500, a cost effective, shorter range variant specially engineered to provide a compact expeditionary and permanent solution for strategic assets and commercial shipping.
MARSS Ltd, headquartered in the UK with software teams based in Italy and Monaco has emerged as one of the most innovative providers of maritime domain awareness solutions for maritime security including, anti-piracy, strategic asset protection and platform security.
Westminster International Ltd, headquartered in Oxfordshire, UK, is a leader in the supply of system solutions and products to the security, defence, fire protection and safety markets worldwide.
