DOF elects to go with DELPH seabed mapping softwareDOF Subsea Norway AS has joined the list of early customers for iXSea's new version of DELPH subsea mapping software. The Bergen-based subsea operations specialists have purchased six licenses for the DELPH Seismic and DELPH Sonar products.



DOF will use the software for geophysical data collection and interpretation in support of seabed mapping connected with, for example, pipeline inspections and route survey work.

The software was selected by DOF after an extensive in-house testing programme. This initially involved the processing of previously gathered data and culminated in a sea-trial using the company's Geocat geophysical survey vessel equipped with Edgetech Full Spectrum CHIRP technology.

Jens Ditlev, chief geologist, DOF, said: "The software meets or, in some areas, exceeds our entire shallow seabed mapping needs. It has been designed to combine side-scan sonar, sub-bottom profiling and magnetometry data, and it performs well in this respect. It is efficient, versatile and easy to use. Importantly, it also incorporates a very effective internal QC function with ready access to the files and a thorough cross-referencing capability."

Rather than being the result of a revamp of existing software, the DELPH geophysical software suite represents a completely new approach by iXSea. The products have been developed from scratch with several aims in mind. These include ease of data integration; improved data clean-up and imaging; better QC of the data; clearer, more comprehensive presentation of the final information; increased compatibility with imported datasets; simple data export to widely-used mapping information packages such as ArcGIS; and ease of use by less-experienced operators.

Jan Adland, iXSea regional sales manager, Scandinavia, said: "When designing the DELPH software we took a fresh look at the typical user's requirements. By stepping away completely from existing products we have achieved advances in a number of areas that have resulted in a much faster, more efficient, software tool."

The processing of geophysical data to provide a clear indication of seabed conditions can take days or even weeks. Besides the advantages DELPH brings to data post-processing work, the software provides the opportunity for operators to accelerate the production line used to convert data to valuable information on board the survey vessel itself.
