Oceaneering begins operations with new BlueView BV5000 3D mechanical scanning sonarAfter initial offshore testing of a BlueView Technologies 3D mechanical scanning sonar, Oceaneering purchased a BlueView BV5000 to add to its collection of advanced offshore tools. With the ability to make laser-like 3D scans of underwater structures without the equipment and personnel overhead of traditional multibeam surveys, the BV5000 is a perfect fit with Oceaneering's growing presence in the oil rig decommissioning market.

Hans Kros, Global Dredging and Decommissioning Manager for Oceaneering stated: "In addition to our world class reputation for delivering solutions offshore, Oceaneering is keen to apply the latest technologies to continuously improve job site efficiency and safety for our clients."

For its most recent deployment, Hans commented that the BlueView BV5000 was on site to make scans of a damaged platform throughout the decommissioning process to monitor the structure's behavior and identify any twisting and/or collapsing that might pose a risk to divers and equipment in the water. BlueView has been providing its proprietary multibeam solutions to Oceaneering since 2007.

BlueView's advances in ultra-high resolution 3D imaging sonar technology originally developed for US Naval applications will provide Oceaneering with detailed 3D imagery of underwater sites, structures and objects, even in low and zero visibility conditions. As the leading provider of underwater vision solutions worldwide, BlueView Technologies' advanced imaging sonar are currently deployed around the world on AUVs, ROVs, boats, tripods and multiple fixed position platforms.
